Choose one of the following populations to explore beliefs and
customs related to health/illness and life transitions. To promote
new learning, students are expected to select a group outside of
their personal frame of reference.

Other cultures will be considered with permission of the
faculty.
Choose one of the following periods of life/health transitions
to focus your discussion and plan of care.
Pregnancy and Birth Elder care (care of parent or
grandparent)
Children and families End of life issues
Research and present the following information related to the cultural/spiritual beliefs and practices. Your audience is the beginning general practice nurse.
I. Describe Giger and Davidhizar’s Transcultural Nursing
Assessment Framework that you will use to assess your chosen
culture. Must describe each of the 6 parts of the framework.
Approximately 2 pages. Do not describe the culture here just the
framework
II. Assess the chosen culture using the framework focusing on
the selected culture’s beliefs related to the selected transition
period
III. From your assessment of this culture, discuss a two
implications for nursing care. Communication/language, space and
social (family organization (who makes medical decisions)?. In your
culture that the nurse should understand when caring for client
from this culture.
IV. Identify 3 culturally appropriate nursing interventions
with rationale / reference when working with client/family from the
selected culture that are in the selected transition period. You
need ratinale of why this intervention should be effective. This
should also come from your assessment data.
